Wings Win First Round

The Wings have won their first round in the 2009 playoffs (a.k.a. the 'cock fight: Hitchcock v. Babcock) and I would just like to be the first to congratulate me for correctly predicting (2nd comment) the first-round sweep.

Sadly, the future looks grim. It is increasingly likely that the Wings will face a re-energized Ducks in the next round and meet certain doom. "Elbows" Pronger and the hot goaltender du jour will end the series in six. Like the Wings, the Ducks found their "on switch" at the right time and are currently demonstrating why you should never pick San Jose as your cup favorite. Unlike the Wings, the Ducks don't seem to have the magic "off switch", an Osgood who may or may not be hurt, a Brad Stuart who put in three really great games before becoming Brad Stuart again, nor the mindset that, in the face of tenacious and effective forechecking, simply clearing the damn defensive zone and not getting scored on in not nearly as cool as making a fancy pass with an 80% chance of getting picked off on the wrong side of the blue line. It's sad, but demonstrably true.

I suppose if there is some pollyanna-ISH, overly optimistic fool wishes to argue otherwise or provide other forms of fact checking, there is always a comments section following my posts.

Color Quiz. Getting Old.

For anyone who hasn't tried the infamous Color Quiz... you can learn all about yourself by clicking on some colored quadrilaterals.

I must admit, I have a minor weak spot for pseudo-scientific crap like personality quizzes, IQ tests... string-theory (very minor). I do understand that, at best, it's generic and baseless escapism, like astrology or fortune-telling or scotch (personally, I find scotch to be the most effective, but one cannot always have scotch and the internet is everywhere).

I took the silly test back in undergrad in Snoughton and was relatively shocked to see how well the results seemed to match how I felt at the time. For fun, since for some odd reason I got up 15 minutes early this morning, I took it again. Oddly, after 8 years or so, I got the same results. Except for now, they don't seem to describe me at all. I guess I can only hold on to adolescent angst for so long.

BNL for people who hate BNL

There are some people, who for ideological reasons, cannot acknowledge the greatness of the Bare Naked Ladies. Something about being capable of writing really good music, but then belittling their own work with gimmicky lyrics and riffs.

My own rather blase attitude about music, prevents me from being annoyed by such gimmickery, in fact it entertains me immensely. But, it bugs me, people who don't like one of the few bands capable of penetrating my own personal musical sphere of ignorance so, in honor of musical integrity, I have decided to compile a short list of truely great BNL songs without gimmicks, inappropriate irrelevance, or underwear references.

No need to thank me.
